Polishing Wheels (Mops/Buffs)

Ex: 4″ x 1″ polishing wheels

4″ or 100mm is the diameter of the mop. The common diameters we sell are 2″, 3″, 4″, 6″ and 8″.

1″ is the thickness.

Explaining some of the different types of polishing wheel:

sisal-set.jpgSisal polishing wheel – consisting of cloth layers and sisal layers stitched together to the desired thickness, these buffs are suitable for the preparation of polishing surfaces with excellent cutting power when used together with a suitable compound. Some sisal polishing wheels are dip treated to be more aggressive when cutting.

cs-set.jpgws-set.jpgColor Stitch and White Stitch polishing wheels – Versatile grades of polishing wheel, similar to each other. The white stitch is slightly softer than the color stitch. Good for a polishing operation where you need brightness back when the condition of the metal is not marked/scratched or badly pitted. These can be used to cut as well with a compound but are less aggressive than sisal.

4-x-1sec-lf-set.jpgCalico “B” Loose Flap Polishing Wheel – Are a very popular grade of finsihingwheel. with 100% cotton discs these are a harder grade of loose mops commonly used as an alternative to white stitch wheels and very popular for precious metals and final polishings to your metal surface.

sd-set.jpgSwansdown WDR polishing wheels – A very soft grade of finishing mop. WDR means “white double raised” and these wheels are also know as Swansdownwheels. Generally used for soft precious metals, jewelery etc in the final finish.

Polishing Compounds

Depending on what metal you are polishing, a compound combination would be the next step in your polishing kit choice.

There are currently 6 compounds we sell on our site, all slightly vary in weight, but are approximately 1lb.

tripoli-buffing-compound.jpgTripoli Buffing Compound-Cut/Color Grade (Brown)

This Tripoli is a medium dry type of compound often referred to as “Double Duty Tripoli” because it cuts down and colors the work in one buffing operation on many applications. The grease binders have a high melting point making the Tripoli bar quite hard. Recommended for buffing copper plated articles, brass, bronze, aluminum and zinc die castings in all forms.

The familiar brown or chocolate colored cakes of Tripoli Buffing Compound are one of the oldest and most widely used buffing compositions for cutting down and bringing out a high luster on non-ferrous metals. Its fast cutting and bright coloring action on such metals have created its wide use on all types of zinc die castings, sheet and cast brass, copper-plated work and aluminum castings and stampings.

aluminum-buffing-compound.jpgAluminum Buffing Compound-Cut/Color (Brown)

This grade was developed to “cut down” and “color” dull and oxidized aluminum in one buffing operation on hand and automatic buffing machines. Removing nicks, scratches and light machined or scuff marks. Brings up a high luster, leaving the buffed work clean and free of excess grease, or dirt.

steel-buffing-compound-.jpgSteel Buffing Compound Cut & Color (Grey)

A steel and stainless steel cut and color compound giving a dual action because it cuts down and colors the work in one buffing operation on many applications. Leaves the work clean. This compound is formulated with graded aluminum oxide mixed into a matrix of grease binders its “fast cutting” and “good coloring” properties makes it an ideal buffing compound on hard metals.  Recommended for buffing out stretched metal strains, die marks, spinning lines, tool marks, nicks, scuff marks, scratches and weld blemishes an excellent all purpose grade.

sisalcloth-buffing-compound.jpgSisal Or Cloth Buffing Compound Cutting Grade (Grey)

Sisal Or Cloth Buffing Compound Cutting Grade is formulated with sharp cutting, aluminum oxide abrasives, in a matrix of tacky grease binders. Developed especially for applying to sisal/cloth buffing wheels for fast cutting action.

Recommended for buffing when the work surface requires a more than normal, aggressive cutting down action.  Effectively removes burrs, ripples, score marks, light tool, die and machining lines and oxides from drawn, stamped, roll formed and cast ferrous and non-ferrous metals. This compound is formulated with a matrix of grease binders. Its “fast cutting” and “good coloring” properties makes it an ideal buffing compound on hard metals.  Recommended for buffing out stretched metal strains, die marks, spinning lines, tool marks, nicks, scuff marks, scratches and weld blemishes an excellent all purpose grade.

plastic-buffing-compound.jpgPlastic Buffing Compound Coloring Grade (White)

Plastic Buffing Compound Coloring Grade is a high-luster grade formulated with an extremely fine abrasive particle. Recommended when buffing acrylics, lucite, plexi-glass, clear-coat urethane or enamel paints. Will remove and/or blend out light scratches, handling marks and other surface imperfections without leaving buffing wheel lap lines.

marine-blue-rouge-high-luster-.jpgMarine Blue Rouge High Luster Coloring Grade (Blue)

Marine Blue Rouge High Luster Coloring Grade is an all purpose coloring rouge for buffing stainless steel, aluminum, brass, copper, wood, clear lacquered surfaces, plastics, including acrylics.  Also used to remove water stains and frosted chromium plating burn marks.  Extensively used when a secondary re-buffing operation is required to brighten and enhance the surface appearance after a coarse cut-down compound operation fails to bring out a satisfactory bright finish.

1-1/12" x 1-1/2" x 7" moulded bar.

Directions for use: Select the correct grade of buffing compound for the job involved.  Apply compound sparingly to face of revolving buff.  Do not press work piece too hard against the buff.  Apply light pressure.  Let the compound and the buff do the work.  Repeat compound application frequently as needed.

Safety Tips: Wear safety glasses or eye shields when buffing buff below center line of wheel.  Direct particles away from the body and face.  Use a dust mask to avoid inhalation of buffing dust and particles.  Wear protective gloves and clothing.
